THE PASSING
PARADE Caps are for emphasis only. No table of contents which means you have to
read the entire issue to find out everything that's happening.
:-) ______________________________________________________________________________________________ A Note from Erik Welcome
to another edition of The Passing Parade, the aperiodical newsletter
from Think Tank Media. In this very Moogy issue we have videos, videos
and more videos! (Oh, and some rather nice photos, too!) I shall give
you a report on the recent Moogus Operandi concert for The Bob Moog
Foundation in the beautiful, creative city of Asheville, North
Carolina. I will also give you some happy news about our recent
download additions to iTunes and ReverbNation,
and then finally, I have a bunch of links to the latest videos and
photos of Lana and me. Oh yes, and do
please come see me on my Facebook
page. The latest news always seems to show up there first. And if you
want to get in touch for any reason, you can write to me there on
Facebook or simply email thethinker (at) thetank (dot) com anytime. Best wishes, |
| Moogus Operandi: wrap up of Erik Norlander's concert for The Bob Moog Foundation On May 27, 2010, I played a special concert at The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC in celebration of the Moog legacy for a fundraiser for The Bob Moog Foundation joined by Lana along with a gathering of amazng Asheville musicians: Woody Wood, Oso Rey, Andy Pond, Ellie LaBar, River Gueguerian, Adama Dembéle, Shen Hunt, Brooks Butler, Amos Gaynes and Chris Tanfield. Vocalist Debrissa McKinney also joined us for the VIP pre-party the night before where we all sampled the delightful new Moog Filtered Ale (now available for shipping through Bruisin' Ales!). We played songs from my new CD, The Galactic Collective, and a couple of other favorites including a stirring version of Lana's "Queen of the Ocean". The newly reconfigured Wall of Doom analog modular Moog synthesizer was the centerpiece (or should I say "looming backdrop"!) for the evening thanks to the efforts of engineers Amos Gaynes and August Worley. Our week in Asheville for this event was an unfortgettable one, and we were quite sad to leave. Thanks to Bob Moog Foundation Executive Director par excellence Michelle Moog Koussa and her incredible staff for creating and executing a truly amazing event. The spirit of Bob Moog shone brightly this evening and continues to do so because of all your tremendous efforts and unwavering commitment to the Moog legacy. Please click these links to check out the beautiful galleries from photograper John Leidel of the show and the rehearsals and also coverage from the Asheville Mountain Xpress who provided amazing support for the event. -- Erik |

| Erik Norlander talks about the SampleMoog virtual instrument A while back, I contributed a fairly huge sample set of my Moog instruments to a virtual instrument called SampleMoog by IK Multimedia (makers of SampleTank, AmpliTube 3, T-Racks, etc.). My friend Dave Kerzner -- former keyboardist with the late great Kevin Gilbert -- runs Sonic Reality, a company in the Miami area that specializes in detailed samples of vintage instruments and particularly those in the prog rock world. I continue to work with them on several exciting projects. Dave and Sonic Reality created the sounds for SampleMoog and all of the IK Multimedia virtual instruments, and they asked me to sit down and talk about the sounds I contributed to the product. | ASIA Featuring John Payne video blogs ASIA Featuring John Payne is not affiliated with Think Tank Media, but I do play keyboards in the band and have been touring and recording with them for a few years now. Our friend Erik Nielsen has been shooting and assembling some excellent video blogs of interviews and rehearsal footage that I think you will find interesting. I am featured in Episode 3, and I believe I do at least appear in most of the episodes. Here are the links to the videos: Episode 1 Episode 2 Episode 3 Episode 4 Episode 5 There is a lot of great info at the ASIA Featuring John Payne Facebook page as well. If you're a fan of the band or want to learn more about it, please stop by and have a look. -- Erik |
