Welcome to our Spring 2008 issue of The Passing Parade, our aperiodical newsletter telling you about all the activities of our Think Tank Media artists. This is a particularly busy time for me as -- while in the midst of several Rocket Scientists concert dates -- I just have been invited to join GPS as their keyboardist for their appearance at the 2008 Rites of Spring Festival (aka ROSFest) in Pennsylvania. I have of course already been working with the members of GPS on the new "Asia featuring John Payne" album, so they are a familiar bunch. But I did have to learn quite a few songs from the GPS "Window to the Soul" album in a pretty big hurry. There was apparently a logistical problem with getting the regular GPS keyboardist, the excellent Ryo Okumoto, over to the USA from Japan for this festival, so the guys asked me to fill in. I had a wonderful time last year at ROSFest with Rocket Scientists, and I have certainly been enjoying working with "Asia featuring John Payne", so it was an easy decision for me to accept the invitation. Now I just hope I'll be able to start the right songs with the right band! Two weeks after ROSFest, we'll be in the UK with Rocket Scientists for the Rotherham Rocks 2008 Festival. Mark, Don and I are all looking forward to this show as the Rotherham Rocks 1997 Festival was the first ever gig for Rocket Scientists! We've played in Rotherham several times since then, of course, but this will be our first festival appearance there since that first tour back in 1997. And speaking of Rocket Scientists concerts, we just finished up some great ones. Our appearance at Baja Prog XII was a lot of fun, and we really enjoyed meeting so many friends and fans down there. The Baja Prog staff was really great, and we were treated extremely well. Then two days later we found ourselves several thousand miles away in Cleveland, Ohio, for a concert at The Winchester, a cool music theater in the Lakewood suburb. Our friend Dena Henry did a wonderful job of putting on the Cleveland concert, our publicist extraordinaire, Sandy Serge, worked overtime with her team promoting it (and Baja Prog, too, of course!), and we were treated to a special appearance by Michelle Moog - Koussa, daughter of synthesizer icon, Bob Moog, who gave the audience a great overview of The Bob Moog Foundation (of which Michelle is the Executive Director) and then introduced the band. We thank both Michelle and Dena for their great support in Cleveland. We've added some new Rocket Scientists dates as well. In June we will be playing at The Power of Prog Festival along with one west coast date currently in the works, and then in August the band will play in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at The Three Rivers Prog Festival, and then there are some other events in the North Coast / Northeast area in the pipeline for this month as well. And finally, I am pleased to announce that the lovely Lana Lane will be joining Rocket Scientists as our special guest vocalist for all of the scheduled concert dates this year. If you don't have your copy of the Lana Lane - Red Planet Boulevard CD or the Rocket Scientists - Looking Backward box set, please stop by the Think Tank Media web shop, ProgRock Records or your favorite retailer and get caught up with us! There's some excellent music there just waiting for you.

Best wishes,
Erik Norlander

ABOUT STICK ENTERPRISES:  This California Stick manufacturing and marketing corporation was founded by musician/inventor Emmett Chapman, creator of the legendary Chapman Stick as well as the more recent NS/Stick, a design collaboration between Emmett and Ned Steinberger.  Emmett discovered and created the unique "Stick" two-handed tapping method on his 9-string guitar in 1969.  It was a totally new way of playing on strings - fingers of both hands aligned parallel to the frets and to each other, each hand approaching the fretboard from opposite sides.  This technique has now been in use for nearly 40 years by Stick players and also by those tapping guitarists and bassists who align both hands at right angles to the neck and strings.  Don became one of Emmett's first students in 1975 and quickly rose to band performance level on  Stick from a professional bass player's perspective.  The student then began to inspire the teacher to new heights as Don applied his funky left-hand bass rhythm concepts to Emmett's powerful tapping technique.
