LANA LANE - ECHOES FROM THE OCEAN
In the tradition of "Echoes from the Garden", Lana Lane announces her release of the 33-minute CD EP (or "mini-album") "Echoes from the Ocean", which will be released in Japan on the Avalon label on April 15, 1999. Like its 1998 counterpart, Echoes from the Garden, the new "Echoes from the Ocean" CD is the complement to it preceding studio album, in this case, the 1999 symphonic hit, "Queen of the Ocean".
"Echoes from the Ocean" contains five tracks -- all previously unreleased or currently unavailable versions. The first track is a completely new song entitled "Rhapsody" written by Mark McCrite (Rocket Scientists) and Erik Norlander. This uptempo rocker opens the album with unbridled symphonic energy.
The second track is a brand new remix of the Lana Lane classic, "Escher's Staircase". While the original "Curious Goods" mix of this classic song was more dry and direct, the new 1999 Remix of "Escher's Staircase" is more spacious and bombastic, much like the recent "Queen of the Ocean" album.
Following "Escher's Staircase" are two alternate versions of songs from "Queen of the Ocean". The "Long Echoes Version" of "Frankenstein Unbound" is an exercise in pure indulgence with it's atmospheric keyboard introduction and three *additional* solos. Also, this long version adds a fourth verse to the already epic song. Following "Frankenstein Unbound" is an early version of the AOR ballad, "Without You" featuring Don Schiff on the NS/Stick instead of the "Queen of the Ocean" version's Tony Franklin on fretless bass. Also, a different Neil Citron guitar solo is presented, along with a slightly altered mix from the "Queen of the Ocean" version.
Finally, the mini-album concludes with the original 1995 Version of "Through the Fire". This track makes a serendipitous appearance on "Echoes from the Ocean" because the rendition on Lana's 1998 reissue version of the "Love is an Illusion" album is quite a bit different than this original one. This is due to the fact that the original master tapes of the song were damaged, and the drum, bass and rhythm guitar tracks were sadly unsalvageable. For the 1998 reissue version, new rhythm tracks were recorded by Tony Franklin, Tommy Amato and Neil Citron. Presented herein, however, are the warmly embraced original tracks recorded way back in 1993 by Danny Lorenze (d), Don Schiff (b) and Neil Citron (g).
Astounding cover art is provided again by the fantastic Polish painter, Jacek Yerka.
